Changes Coming for QuickBooks Desktop Users
Changes Coming for QuickBooks Desktop Users
If you are a QuickBooks desktop user, this article may be of interest to you! This content is a courtesy to our QuickBooks Desktop Users to help keep you informed of some upcoming changes. Effective with the release of the 2022 QuickBooks Desktop Version, QuickBooks is transitioning to a subscription model for all of their Desktop lineups.
This means beginning with the 2022 Release, users will be required to pay an annual subscription fee instead of paying an upfront one-time fee. The subscription fee will include the following benefits:
- Access to the latest version, with the most up-to-date features and security patches.
- Up to 38% faster, more reliable QuickBooks computing power (64-bit).
- Unlimited customer support and data recovery at no additional charge.
Please note that clients on older 32-bit computers will not be able to use the 2022 version, which requires a 64-bit compatible Windows operating system.
Based on the QuickBooks website the annual subscription fee for the QuickBooks Pro Plus 2022 module is $349.99 per year. The subscription fee for the QuickBooks Premier Plus 2022 module is $549.99 per year. These prices are per User. If your business needs to have more than one concurrent user license, there will be additional fees.
In response to the upcoming changes, QuickBooks is offering a limited time exception for the purchase of their Desktop Pro and Premier 2021 one-time purchase licenses. This means you may continue to purchase the 2021 Desktop Pro and Premier version as a one-time fee with no annual subscription fee. This one-time exception is only available until December 10, 2021. The 2021 Desktop version can be purchased through Quickbooks for approx. $349.99.
After the December 10, 2021 deadline any new purchases or upgrades will need to be purchased through the annual subscription service as discussed above.
If you use the QuickBooks payroll features, you are required to upgrade your program every 3 years in order to receive the payroll tax tables. If you are using the payroll feature you should consider upgrading to the 2021 version prior to December 10, 2021. The 2021 version is supported for payroll users through May 2024. The 2020 version is supported through May 2023 and the 2019 version is supported through May 2022.
If you are not using the QuickBooks payroll feature and you do not need to upgrade to a newer QuickBooks version, you will be able to continue with your older version without having to pay the annual subscription. If you continue with your older version you will not be able to receive any technical support from QuickBooks.
